Blocking underage tobacco sales –

no_buts_logoThis program has been established by the Partnership For A Tobacco-Free Maine and the Maine State Attorney General’s Office as part of Maine’s comprehensive tobacco awareness effort to stem our state’s epidemic of underage tobacco use.

An epidemic?  More than 1 in 6 Maine high school kids use tobacco products, many beginning as young as 12 or 13.  Each year, 1,600 Maine kids begin smoking and now 127,000 kids under 18 will die prematurely because of it.

If you are the owner or manager of a retail store, you have a critical role to play in helping reduce the use of tobacco by our state’s youth.  the NO BUTS! program is designed to equip you with the tools you need to effectively block underage tobacco sales.  It also provides a mechanism for rewarding retailers who are already doing a good job.

Signing up to participate in the NO BUTS! program means you will receive, free-of-charge, a comprehensive kit which includes a step-by-step Employer Guide for implementing the NO BUTS! program.
